Sense International

Sense International is one of the leading organisations that supports children and adults with deafblindness across a range of often resource poor countries: Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Peru and Romania.

Children who are deafblind in these countries desperately need to receive education and healthcare. Without this, many will lead short, lonely lives.

Although Sense International is a fairly small charity, we have a big impact. For over 20 years we have been working in partnership with local organisations to provide expert support and services to people who are deafblind. We demonstrate to governments that people who are deafblind are worth investing in. And we put support in place so that we can walk away and leave solid expertise behind.

With this support, children who are deafblind can finally receive the medical and educational support they need. They can learn to communicate, to develop self-care skills, receive an education and perhaps find a job. Rather than being excluded they can thrive and live as valued human beings.

Leaving a gift in your Will is simple and takes very little time. However big or small, your gift could transform the lives of children with deafblindness living in some of the poorest communities across the world.

Seafarers UK

Seafarers UK has been helping people in the maritime community for 100 years, by providing vital support to seafarers in need and their families, and to those in education or training who are preparing to work or serve at sea. We do this this by giving grants to organisations and projects that make a real difference to people’s lives, across the Merchant Navy, Fishing Fleets, Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

Last year we gave grants totalling £2.5 million to over 70 maritime welfare charities. Seafarers UK receives no government funding and is heavily dependent on public donations and legacies to maintain its grant-making.

Shipwrecked Mariners' Society - Supporting the seafaring community for over 175 years

Founded in 1839 the Shipwrecked Mariners’ Society provides financial help to merchant seafarers, fishermen and their dependants suffering hardship and distress. We pay an immediate grant to the widow of a serving seafarer who dies, whether death occurs at sea or ashore. Regular grants are paid to former seafarers, their widows and partners, whose circumstances justify on-going support. Special grants are made to meet particular needs in crisis situations. Practical assistance is given to seafarers of any nationality shipwrecked on the coast of the British Isles. In the last year we made grant payments of £1.4 million in over 2,200 cases of need.
