Royal College of Surgeons of England

Register Charity No. 212808

With 4.2 million surgical operations carried out every year in England alone, our aim to maintain and advance surgical standards in patient care has never been so important. Some operations are minor, while others are life-saving or will dramatically enhance the quality of life. In every case, the patient places their trust in the hands of the surgeon.

Independent of the NHS, the College relies heavily on charitable support to fund the development of these activities. Legacies and donations from grant-giving trusts, companies and individuals provide an essential source of income, and allow us to fund important new projects and initiatives.

The College continues to sustain and improve surgical standards throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Our training, education and research programmes are intended to advance the knowledge and skills of surgeons so that the treatment received by patients is of the highest possible standard.

Hospice Aid UK

Hospice Aid is a unique UK based charity delivering much needed grants to UK hospices.

Hospice AID UK is committed to support all hospices who apply to us with every penny spent staying in the UK. We give support where and when it's needed.

There is no charge for hospice care and they rely heavily on public funding. We have provided support in all types of ways, whether to help buy specialist equipment, cover hospice running costs, supply emergency funding or in other areas that can be difficult to get funding for.

We are driven by our determination to increase awareness of how reliant hospices are for funding, but we couldn't do this without public support.

A donation, however large or small, would mean we could help a larger number of hospices and reach more of the people that need it. Hospice Aid UK delivers the money where it is needed, when it is needed.

The National Brain Appeal

The National Brain Appeal raises funds for The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Institute of Neurology (jointly known as Queen Square).

The National Hospital is one of the world’s leading centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with a wide range of neurological and neuromuscular conditions including multiple sclerosis (MS), brain cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, Prion disease, and brain injury.

One in six people in the UK are affected by a neurological condition. That’s more than the number of people living with cancer, coronary heart disease and diabetes combined. In spite of this there has been a continuing lack of national prioritisation to deliver better outcomes for those affected. Our aim is to improve the outcome and quality of life for everyone with a neurological disorder by funding pioneering research, providing access to the latest technology for expert diagnosis and training tomorrow’s leading clinicians. Your help can make this possible.

Pharmacist Support

Pharmacist Support is an independent charity working for pharmacists and their families and pharmacy students to provide help and support in times of need. Our range of free and confidential services include financial assistance, a stress helpline (Listening Friends), addiction support (Health Support Programme), debt, benefits and employment advice and an information and enquiry service.

Pharmacist Support currently works in partnership with CAB, Action on Addiction and Chiumento. Some services are delivered directly by trained volunteer pharmacists, located throughout Great Britain. Because of the shared professional background, these volunteers are uniquely able to understand the specific pressures affecting pharmacists and their families.

Pharmacist Support relies on funding to deliver our services and help pharmacists and their families face life changing events.

By supporting Pharmacist Support you will help ensure the continuity of our work and enable us to develop new services as the needs of pharmacists change. For further details visit our website at www.pharmacistsupport.org/get-involved/donate.

You can help Pharmacist Support in a range of ways by taking up a challenge or holding a fundraising event, leaving a gift in your will or sponsoring an event. If you would like to help us make a difference, please get in touch with Petra van den Houten on 0161 441 0317.

Mental Health

Psychiatry Research Trust

The Psychiatry Research Trust (PRT) was set up by a Trust Deed dated 20th January 1982. It raises funds for research into all aspects of mental illness and brain disorder undertaken at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and its associated Bethlem Royal and Maudsley Hospitals, and has a special interest in developing the researchers of tomorrow.

Throughout our existence we have received (and are eternally grateful for) a huge amount of help from volunteers who have raised money by running, dancing, swimming, cycling, and skateboarding for us; organising quizzes, raffles, coffee mornings, plant sales, book sales, and cake sales for us; performed plays, presented concerts, and sung Carols for us; remembered us on their birthdays and in their wills. They have been responsible for donations amounting to hundreds of thousands of pounds

If we are to continue to help the vast number of sufferers from mental ill health and brain disorders in this country, such generous people as they have been will always be essential to us in order that we may maintain the quality and relevance of the research work we support.

Only in this way will we be able to ensure that the tools of our research retain their cutting edge. These tools are essentially the people, the space for them to work in (clinics, wards and laboratories), the scientific and medical equipment they need to work with, and the library to provide them with the information they require. It is for these reasons that the Psychiatry Research Trust seeks your help.

Alzheimer's Research UK

We are the UK’s leading research charity aiming to defeat dementia. We power world class studies that give us the best chance of beating dementia.

Dementia affects 850,000 people in the UK. 24 million of the UK population have a close friend or family member with dementia. As well as the huge personal cost, dementia costs the UK economy £24 billion a year, more than cancer and heart disease combined. Despite these figures, dementia research is desperately underfunded.

Our pioneering work focuses on prevention, treatment and cure. We rely on gifts from the public to help us fund the best possible research. Currently, gifts in Wills fund approximately 1 in 3 of our vital research projects, moving us closer to a world free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia.

Rethink Mental Illness

We believe a better life is possible for millions of people affected by mental illness.

Over 40 years ago, one man bravely spoke about his family’s experiences of mental illness in a letter to The Times and in the process brought together hundreds to talk about their experiences of mental illness and support each other.

Today, we directly support almost 60,000 people every year across England to get through crises, to live independently and to realise they are not alone. And we change attitudes and policy for millions.

We can only continue our work because of generous support from people like you, please help us continue our work with a donation today.

Camphill Foundation UK

Camphill Foundation provides much-needed financial support to projects which greatly enhance the quality of life of adults, children and young people with learning disabilities. Camphill communities throughout the UK and Ireland offer safe and supportive environments in a variety of semi-rural and urban settings where individuals can feel at home and develop their personal abilities and interests. There is also a strong sense of belonging to a diverse but cohesive intentional community and supported living network. Work opportunities abound, giving a real sense of meaning, purpose and achievement, which is essential for a person’s well-being.

Camphill Foundation supports development projects such as the building of new accommodation, establishing new workshops and facilities, developing agricultural and horticultural activities, providing new equipment, and various educational, training, cultural and social initiatives. Support is often in the form of grants to help projects get started and loans at a low rate of interest, usually over several years.

Supporting Camphill Foundation means also fostering a new understanding and recognition of people with disabilities and enabling them to develop and make use of their astonishing talents and skills as fully engaged, talented and co-responsible members of the community carrying out important and meaningful work which is both fulfilling for them and of great value to others.

Food

Concern Worldwide

A world without hunger. That’s our mission. And it’s well underway, thanks to our sustainable solutions to hunger – and people like you. Today 200 million fewer people are hungry than 25 years ago. But now we need to finish the job.

A gift in your Will could mean that, when the day without hunger arrives, you’ll be there. You’ll provide farmers with training, seeds and tools to grow more. You’ll provide livestock, water pumps, and weather resistant crops to help communities develop resilience to climate change. You’ll help families build livelihoods so they can become self-sufficient. You’ll be there alongside our hunger experts as they continue the work you’ve started.

Let’s commit to finishing the job – child by child, community by community, and country by country. Because we’ve come too far to leave a world without hunger to chance.

For more information on how a gift left to Concern Worldwide will help us end hunger, please call our Gifts in Will team on 028 9026 8019 or email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Garden Organic

Growing organically is about learning to work with nature. We recognise the important relationships between all of the living things in our gardens – the soil, plants, insects, wildlife and ourselves, of course.

We aim to give growers of all levels, from enthusiastic beginners to professional experts, advice on every aspect of organic growing. We also work with schools, community groups and provide horticultural therapy.

Our goal is simple – to get more people growing organically. But we can only achieve this with the help of our wonderful supporters. Thousands of you are helping us to spread the word about the many benefits of organic gardening.

Finance

Turn2us

There are so many reasons people experience poverty in the UK. Bereavement, job loss, family breakdown, ill health and needing to care for a loved one are just some examples.

Turn2us was founded in 1897 as The Distressed Gentlefolk’s Aid Association and we’ve supported people living in poverty in the UK and Ireland for over a century by awarding grants so they can afford basics they need such as household items, home repairs and disability equipment, or that help them return to education, training or employment. Thanks to our generous supporters, over 4,600 people benefitted from our direct grants last year.

Today we also help many more people in need through our helpline and Turn2us.org.uk website and our free services are a vital lifeline for many living in financial hardship. Last year nearly 4 million people visited our website and our helpline received 90,000 calls.

Supporting Turn2us will mean we can be there for those who need us in the future. You could be helping a mother caring for a disabled child, a family whose life has been turned upside down by redundancy or an elderly widow with a chronic illness struggling to make ends met.

Our name has changed over the years but we’ve never wavered from our original mission – fighting poverty in the UK and Ireland.
