The Bar Council, which represents barristers in England and Wales, has announced today that its escrow account service for the Bar, BARCO, will be used exclusively for all remuneration and financial transactions relating to public access instructions at St Philips Chambers, one of the largest sets of chambers in England and Wales.
This pioneering arrangement with BARCO highlights St Philips Chambers’ forward-thinking approach particularly to public access, and to the provision of legal services.
BARCO provides a tailored solution which makes it easier than ever before to work with the Bar, while maintaining the profession’s high quality and cost effective services. It is insured, secure and trustworthy, and it meets the Bar Standards Board’s new rules for escrow services.
Michael Todd QC, Chairman of BARCO, and a former Chairman of the Bar,said:
“St Philips has taken the lead in forging a new relationship between its clients and BARCO. This agreement will lead to increased protection for consumers, reducing credit risk and improving the client experience. I am delighted to launch this new agreement, which marks an important milestone in the development of the BARCO service.”
Joe Wilson, Chief Clerk at St Philips, said:
“St Philips was one of the first sets to support BARCO during its early development. We joined 12 other sets during its pilot early in 2013 and this agreement is the next natural step in that on-going relationship. BARCO provides St Philips with the ability to meet client needs and sustain its reputation for high quality, valued advocacy and advisory services. I am very pleased that we are now able to announce our agreement to use BARCO exclusively for public access instructions.”
