The House of Commons Home Affairs Committee has called for urgent reform of the Police Federation. The Police Federation is sitting on over £70 million of it’s members money. This level of reserves far exceeds the Federations operating costs. The committee recommends that the excess funds should be returned to it’s members.
The Committee also found there was a culture of bullying in the higher levels of the Police Federation and the “dysfunctional relationships at the Federation headquarters have seriously undermined the organisations ability to speak with a powerful voice on behalf of it’s members.
Written expert evidence was given by the Independent Police Compaints Commision, Stonewall, West Midlands Police Federation and the Metropolitan Police Federation.
